New Generation of Youth Leaders to Address Hate Speech

Project Overview:

The aim of the project “New Generation of Youth Leaders to Address Hate Speech” is to promote development of model plans for addressing hate speech issues in Bitola high schools.

The main objectives are:

  • To train student leaders and school officials in hate speech prevention and management
  • To promote development of school methods for management of hate speech
  • To increase awareness and reporting of hate speech incidents in the schools

The project will be implemented over a six-month period beginning in June 2017, and will be completed in time to demonstrate impact during the 2017-2018 school years. Target groups are school officials who are typically involved when offensive speech becomes a serious problem (school psychologists and pedagogues) and the youth leaders who hold official roles within the schools (youth council and other official youth groups and student ombudsmen) in seven Bitola high schools.

Activities: The process will involve a day of expert training for school officials (two per school), four days of intensive training for school youth leaders (four per school), and a final planning meeting in which all participants will collaborate to review each schools approach to addressing hate speech, following a template developed by experts in hate speech prevention and management.

Implementation: Association for Civil Activism FORUM 16 – Bitola

The project is funded by the European Youth Foundation.
